I lived in Thames Ditton and Claygate for a while. All round there good connections into London and good schools too. We moved further out to Horsham in West Sussex — and no issues with any of the schools here really…it depends how long you want to spend on your commute time wise.
My OH still works in London and does door to door in just under 90 minutes…his office is walking distance from Victoria though. We live Hampshire and my husband commutes from Basingstoke — an excellent commute and has allowed us to more to an area where there is an abundance of fantastic schools primary and private and fabulous countryside. Catchment areas change year on year depending on the number of children born in that year so moving as close as possible is also good advice.

This year my daughter failed to get into any decent primaries even though we live less than half a mile from one of them and they took 90 kids this year!
So yes, find a decent one and literally move next door! Falls under the London Borough of Sutton and this borough has some of the best choices of schools — Grammar schools for both boys and girls, great comprehensive schoosl and a selection of private schools as well. Wallington train station is a 5 minute walk for us and the train takes 25 minutes to London Bridge or 35 minutes to London Victoria.
The school situation is always a challenge for us when we are helping families relocate. You really need to do your research to establish catchment areas, but have to bear in mind these change frequently. Therefore, if you are moving with toddlers you do need to be practically next door to a school to guarantee a place.
