I've used Permatex Ultra Black. It's sensor safe, and it's black, so a little excess won't stand out like a sore thumb. Originally Posted by dano I am rebellious. No luck on your link, error. RTV Silicone for valve cover. Thread starter edcantu9 Start date Jan 15, I am changing the gasket on the valve cover on my Escape. I have these two bottles of RTV here in my garage. The red one states that it is not recommended for head gaskets. I am confused because people say they use it for that??
Even on amazon people state they use it on head gaskets? The blue one has no such warning. But I find it odd that people recommend the red one if it states on the back it is not for that. Is there another one I should use? Is the blue one okay to use?
I will be using it to place a small amount on the recommended corners to put it on. Joined Dec 28, Messages Location Ohio.

Can I use gasket maker with a gasket? Using a gasket maker to replace a head gasket. While today's gasket makers and flange sealants can replace most conventional, formed, or multi-material gaskets, they should never be used to replace a head gasket.
