Should i watch 2001

Dunkirk intentionally chooses not to flesh out any of its characters or tell their backstories. Perhaps subconsciously, Nolan made Dunkirk in part to replicate his experience as a small child watching By providing your email, you agree to the Quartz Privacy Policy. For anybody to dismiss A Space Odyssey as "boring" they must have no interest in science, technology, philosophy, history or the art of film-making.

Finally I understand why most Hollywood productions are so shallow and vacuous - they understand their audience. Thankfully, those that cannot appreciate Kubrick's accomplishment are still a minority. Most viewers are able to see the intelligence and sheer virtuosity that went into the making of this epic.

This is the film that put the science in "science fiction", and its depiction of space travel and mankind's future remains unsurpassed to this day. It was so far ahead of its time that humanity still hasn't caught up. The reason it is slow, and filled with minutae is because the aim was to realistically envision the future of technology and the past, in the awe inspiring opening scenes. The film's greatest strength is in the details.

Remember that when this film was made, man still hadn't made it out to the moon To create such an incredibly detailed vision of the future that 35 years later it is still the best we have is beyond belief - I still can't work out how some of the shots were done. The film's only notable mistake was the optimism with which it predicted mankind's technological and social development. It is our shame that the year did not look like the film , not Kubrick's. Besides the incredible special effects, camera work and set design, Kubrick also presents the viewer with a lot of food for thought about what it means to be human, and where the human race is going.

Yes, the ending is weird and hard to comprehend - but that's the nature of the future. Kubrick and Clarke have started the task of envisioning it, now it's up to the audience to continue. There's no neat resolution, no definitive full stop, because then the audience could stop thinking after the final reel. I know that's what most audiences seem to want these days, but Kubrick isn't going to let us off so lightly.

I'm glad to see that this film is in the IMDB top films, and only wish that it were even higher. Stanley Kubrick is one of the very finest film-makers the world has known, and his finest accomplishment. FAQ Why did we see 7 "stars" during David's travel into the wormhole and what is the meaning behind it? What became of the hominid monolith? When we see HAL reading the lips of the two men, we don't hear what they are saying.

What were they saying to each other, when we couldn't hear them? Details Edit. Release date June 24, United States. This was not the first time pre-recorded tracks had been used in a major film — Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini had employed African American gospel music and Bach in his film The Gospel According to Saint Matthew.

The key decision of co-writer Arthur C. Clarke and Kubrick was to not show the alien life force, other than via a mysterious black monolith. And despite initially toying with the idea of covering the slab with instructional diagrams, they decided against it. They understood that what you don't see is more powerful than what you do see. The former prods the imagination, gives the audience something to carry away, discuss and think about. Kubrick, in particular, was keen to strip away conventional plotting and characterisation, preferring five linear narrative modules linked by theme rather than being cemented together by a unifying protagonist.

The standard line is to compare the sequence to an LSD trip. Aboout half of the English cast is the same as the first anime, the rest are new to the show. Usually, remakes are the better ones, I'm smiling when reading this kind of self-decided rule.

But it's the Internet after all BBCode About Gundam. Rei said: Usually, remakes are the better ones, I'm smiling when reading this kind of self-decided rule. Well he said usually. Take Fullmetal Alchemist for example. I think Fruits Basket is same here, where new version should follow manga more closely so I have heard. And you know how Brotherhood turned out. More recent one is Dororo and I think everyone would think it's superior to old version. Errm, here, if I understand you, the TV series is "superior" because To reuse your words, the 69 one follows the manga more closely despite having its own differences.

The vision of the manga and first TV show was interesting in itself, the atmosphere too minus a few episodes. The new one offers a different vision based on the same starting point and some common events , giving up on some themes while elevating the personal drama aspect for a higher "entertainment" value. I can't say that this strategy is "superior" or weaker, sorry. So, mixing those examples, I can presume that it boils down to: "younger, better".

Yeah, Dororo example wasn't the best. Original manga and anime had really different tone. I can't really give many example because I don't read the manga more often. I just assume that if people liked Fruits Basket manga and anime follows it more closely, it could be better. It's not like I have anything against older shows and I can't agree with statement of "younger, better". If it's just made better than one previously, than yeah, it will be true.

But not always. Maybe I made this thread because if I watch version now and watch mostly same story immediately, I wouldn't enjoy new one that much. And if this version adapts manga completely, there wouldn't be much reason to watch version, other than just to see how it was made back than.

So I wanted opinion of someone that watched version and watched first 2 episodes that were shown already. Orulyon Offline Joined: Jun Posts: Lol That will be explained later. But I'll give you a small spoiler: Fruits Basket is a game Japanese children play. In that game, Tohru was an onigiri Riceball. It seems this is only the first season so more seasons will come and probably will take much time, so perhaps you should watch the old version first.
